One of the most compelling moments of the last board meeting was when Ms. Marinelli was caught in the most obvious lie, saying: "I wasn't sure how I was going to vote. . ." Then when she was caught, she scolded the two people in the audience who responded with incredulous gasps. No one will play a fool to obvious lies. The worst part, Cathy, was the lie itself. If she made her vote (as she claimed) after "listening" to the voices of the people - then by voting against every single one (minus four) - she's presenting herself as stupid, confused, bubbleheaded. What a horrible legacy and look for someone who is so proud of her education career. Only dumb people lie, because smart people know you get caught up in a lie. So now in addition to following Ziegler, she's a liar.

Great point Julie. It is horrible to watch a woman who served admirably as an educator throw her legacy away by becoming a useful tool in Bridget Ziegler's foul political playbook. I hope Robyn has some good friends who can talk sense to her. She should be leading, but she is following, and its terrible for the school district.

I referred to it as 'copying off of someone's homework'. She stopped doing the heavy-lifting. She chooses a real surface route - like the "all" in the Student Code of Conduct. I have felt the same way initially as she has, but when you do a little digging and LISTEN to others who are smarter than yourself, you learn. If BZ is who she considers smarter than herself, then we're all in trouble. BZ isn't even smart politically. She's behind the curve.

What an asset Ms Antunes is to our community. I live in Manatee county, but I feel connected to Sarasota from 30+ years working there and still volunteering every day at a Sarasota animal shelter. This article is so spot on. Consider Ms Antunes writing: "Thanks to ignorant ... public officials like Ziegler, another American, Alex Pretti, is dead at the hands of ICE." That resonates with me because it can be said of so many of our local elected officials - in Manatee county as well. I think that after the next election, the haters in public office will see that they do not have the support they think they do.

Appreciate you reading and commenting David. We all have to stand up to put a stop to the desecration of our country by those like Ziegler and her teammates.

Thank you so much for this extremely well written synopsis of all the events leading up to this and how there is so much hypocrisy involved. I agree Marinelli could do better however I keep remembering when Tim Enos voted against something and he was slaughtered on the trash transparency page where they kept calling him “woke”. Honestly.

Cathy Antunes's avatar

Thank you for reading and commenting Leila! Re Enos- yes if one of Team Bridget’s minions step out of line, there is the ritual social media flogging. Independent thinkers are not welcome.

DeSantis has been a sycophant on the Heritage Foundation's attack on education and his school board appointments are consistent with that

Just to clarify, your opinion that ICE is violating anyone's Civil Rights is just that , an Opinion. The Facts are ICE is enforcing laws that are on the books based on Bipartisan agreements and also enforced by all recent Presidents that had control of their mental faculties. If you don't like laws, change them, don't demonize those who are paid to enforce it.

Secondly, the Voters of Florida chose to keep School Board non Partisan. Having a School Board member Join Protests flies in the face of non Partisanship.

Cathy Antunes's avatar

Under Trump, ICE is routinely breaking the law. They have their marching orders. Take your blinders off.

Tim Mays's avatar

Once again, your Opinion. Who has been charged, who has been convicted? Hopefully the Obstructionists will be charged , so this can be done orderly.

Cathy Antunes's avatar

Nope. Fact. Illegal entry, arresting citizens, arresting immigrants lawfully engaging in becoming citizens. Wake up.

Tim Mays's avatar

Where are the Facts? If Immigrants have documentation, they are not being deported. Just one example of someone that was legal and was deported?

Jeffrey R Orenstein, Ph.D.'s avatar

It is indeed her opinion. And it is informed and backed up by facts. All opinions are not created equal. Some are for more fact based and rational that others, Hers is excellent on this matter. An opinion is a window into it's holder's ideology and values.

Tim Mays's avatar

I would certainly like to see proof of the facts Jeffrey, Please post an example of a crime that ICE was charged with.

Jeffrey R Orenstein, Ph.D.'s avatar

Violation of 4th amendment-entering a home without a valid warrant.

Rhana Bazzini's avatar

It's not the law that's in error it's how it's being enforced. Obama deported more people than Trump has but it was done legally. Protests are not partisan.

Tim Mays's avatar

Don't forget that the Democrat run cities cooperated back then. They are absolutely Obstructionists now and if you can't see that , Who has Blinders?

Cathy Antunes's avatar

Texas and Florida are #2and #3 respectively for number of illegal immigrants, behind California. So why is ICE occupying Minnesota? This isn’t about illegal immigration. If Trump wanted to solve that problem, he would not have blocked the bipartisan immigration agreement that was ready to be approved by Congress and signed by Biden. He didn’t want Biden to have a win and he wanted the issue to continue to agitate his base.

Tim Mays's avatar

Cooperation is the key. The surge was nothing more than protection for the existing ICE agents. Where they were originally go out with 4 or 5 agents, the threats caused them to increase to 15 to protect the original 4_5 agents. We as taxpayers should be pissed about what the obstruction cost us. They deporting 10 times the amount in Texas with only 20-25% of the force because of State and Local Cooperation. In Florida we are well aware that FHP and sheriffs re doing a Tremendous job taking the Illegal criminals off our streets. Trump is doing what he was voted in to do and at that time 70% wanted mass Deportation WOW, someone who does what he said he would do

Lisa Schurr's avatar

Well let’s see: two dead. Another one shot.

Tim Mays's avatar

Fifty nine dead during Obama's Deportation. One thing you don't seen to mention is the criminal illegals being deported or imprisoned for violent crimes including murder. Please send me the article that you wrote about Laken Riley are some of the others like the 14 year old boy who was cut up in pieces by the 3 MS13 gang members

You act like Rubio is doing something he can't do. With the Activist judges he is not getting away with anything. Good Try Green Card doesn't make you a Citizen

LAUREL LONG's avatar

I never heard of an activist judge until this administration. That's curious.

LAUREL LONG's avatar

A fact is a fact, not someone elses opinion just because you don't like the fact. DeSatanis violated keeping the school board non-partisan by appointing someone the people rejected.
